City's build up to the new season gathering pace

BRECHIN City's pre-season preparations are gathering pace, a week before the club faces its first pre-season game against SPL side Motherwell (on Tuesday, July 6).

Manager Jim Weir reported nothing more than a "couple of niggles" injury wise, after the squad had a lengthy session in Brechin at the weekend.

Jim said: "We were fairly happy with the lads work ethic. We managed to fit in four sessions and our only problems were experienced by Craig Nelson and Charlie King, both of whom have missed a wee bit of the pre-season preparations. Hopefully, both will be okay very soon.

"The sessions have been good and it's important we have a good pre-season with the matches starting on Tuesday.

"It's important we get a base level of fitness in before the matches get underway. Motherwell will be in the same sort of boat as ourselves. No club is anywhere near full fitness as yet. However, we are quite happy with how it's going so far.

"Big Davie White has been doing well. We will keep monitoring his progress and see what his thoughts are.

"We have to hear from Davie to see if he feels he can do himself justice and we will wait and see how that goes in the next couple of weeks."

The manager went on to explain that he has had positive chats with a couple of players about coming in on -loan.

"The decisions now rest with their clubs allowing us to tie up the loan deals.

It's taken a wee bit longer than I anticipated. With one of the clubs in particular however, we are hoping to progress the move further.

"We are a bit thin on the ground at the minute, but we will hope to rectify that in the coming week.

"Rory McAllister misses a few sessions due to family commitments, but with part-time clubs you always experience these sorts of problems."

Following City's encounter with Motherwell on Tuesday of next week, they subsequently face Stirling Albion at Forthbank on Saturday, July 10, Cowdenbeath at Glebe Park on Tuesday, July 13, Montrose at Glebe Park on Saturday, July 17 and St Mirren at Glebe Park on Wednesday, July 21.

The season's fixtures get under way on Saturday, July 24 when City travel to East Fife in the Alba Cup.

That's followed by a visit to Stenhousemuir on Saturday, July 31 in the CIS Cup and the final warm-up game of the summer against Aberdeen in the David Will Memorial match on Tuesday, August 3, before the first league trip of the season on Saturday, August 7 at title favourites Ayr United.
