Manager Darren Dods is hopeful of agreeing a contract with midfielder Callum Tapping by the end of this week to make him his first signing.

The Brechin City boss said talks are looking good with the former Hearts youth and Dods is keen to get him tied up as soon as possible.

I’m very excited to see Callum playing next season.

Tapping missed much of last season with a cruciate ligament injury after several very impressive outings in City colours under Ray McKinnon.

And McKinnon’s successor believes Tapping will be an excellent player for him next season.

Dods said: “Callum’s on holiday just now but all things going well he’ll play on Wednesday.

“Hopefully we’ll tie him up by the end of the week. I know him from his time at Hearts U19s.

“I spoke to Ray McKinnon and he spoke really highly of him. He was unlucky with his injury last season but he’s a very good player.

“I hope we can get him signed up by the end of the week because I’m very excited to see him playing next season, I think he’ll do very well.”

Joining Tapping in action in tonight’s friendly with Aberdeen will be eight or nine trialists and the gaffer himself.

Dods said: “I’ll have eight or nine trialists playing at some point against Aberdeen. It’s a bit much to ask players to play a full game after two sessions.

“I’m going to play and probably start, I didn’t have much of a choice in fairness. I think 45 or 60 minutes will be my limit.

“It’ll be a good exercise for the players and a good challenge for the boys.”

Tonight’s friendly with Aberdeen kicks off at 7.45pm.

Admission is £6 for adults and £3 for concessions.

Brechin City 2014/15 season tickets will be valid.
