Brechin City have announced that several players from the current squad will be leaving the club, as manager Ray McKinnon focuses on preparing for the new season.
Mr McKinnon and coaches Grant Johnson and Darren Taylor met with the squad at the club’s new training facilities at Stirling University on Monday evening to discuss their future plans.
Presently, Mr McKinnon is to retain the following players from this season’s squad:-
Jonny Brown, Derek Carcary, Graham Hay, Andy Jackson, Gerry McLauchlan, Paul McLean, Craig Molloy, Ewan Moyes, Craig Nelson, Ben Tough, Alan Trouten.
The announcement spells the end of Brechin City’s association with the following players:-
Michael Andrews, Garry Brady, Gary Fusco, Beau Longbridge, David McKenna, Aaron Murdoch, Alex Pursehouse, Jonny Stewart and Ryan Stewart.
Speaking to the club’s website, Mr McKinnon said: “The meeting tonight presented the coaches with the hardest task we have had to face to date. No one likes to see players leave a Club especially when all of the players have performed so well for us this season. I have enjoyed working with everyone of the lads and I am truly sorry to see some of them leave us.
“We have to be true to our beliefs as we try and build a squad that meets our expectations and style of play and to this end changes must be made. I wish to thank the players that are leaving us and I am sure we will see them again as we now enter the football transfer merry go round.”
Some of the departing players took twitter to thank fans, with Ryan Stewart commented: “Had a good year and met some great boys at Brechin now it’s time to move on and see what lies ahead.”
David McKenna tweeted: “Good 3 years at Brechin, great club, All the best next year.”
Goalkeeper Michael Andrews said: “Sad news tonight that I am not signing on with brechin next season, been a good season and met some great lads.”
