Robert Thompson believes Brechin City’s roaring 4-0 win over Forfar Athletic was just what they needed ahead of one of the most important quarter of fixtures in the club’s recent history.
Just nine games remain in the 2015/16 League One season for City and Tuesday’s superb result pulled them to within four points of their rivals Forfar, though the Loons have played one game fewer.
Thompson said the romping victory is up there with the best performance of the season, but the players have got to take momentum forward into their next game at home to Ayr United.
Robert said: “We’re delighted, especially after our recent results. It’s good to go and score a few goals and most importantly, get the three points.
“It’s even bigger as it’s a derby with Forfar and they’re the closest team to us, so it’s definitely a big result. It’s definitely up there for best performance of the season, we need to get consistency about us now because we’ve shown we do have that in us.
“We showed it against Forfar and we’ve shown it previously in the season. We just need to put a string together and get the results.
“I think with mistakes at the back, that comes from defending as a team up to us at the front. We need to put our chances away at the other end as well.
“Liam’s been fantastic since he’s came in, he’s given the squad a boost with his energy and his performances in the last few games, he’s done brilliantly. I think he was disappointed not to get the hat-trick but you can’t be too disappointed to win 4-0 against your rivals.
“I think that’s just what we needed and we need to work on that going forward for Saturday. We need to get points on the board and get climbing the table.”
