Brechin Vics hit for five

East Craigie 5, Brechin Vics 0

Brecin Vics were hit for five when they travelled to Dundee to take on East Craigie in a league game on Saturday.

Vics had two call-offs on the morning of the game, with James McKellar and Fraser Stewart both missing because of a sickness bug, meaning Vics were able to field the same team that had performed so well the previous week against Forfar Albion.

The visitors found East Craigie a different proposition and produced a very poor performance.

East Craigie took the lead after 11 minutes with a simple ball over the Vics defence, allowing their striker to run in on goal before slipping the ball past Robbie.

This was the score at half-time and, although Vics started the second half on the offensive, they were hit on the break on 50 minutes when a shot from 16 yards was deflected past Robbie.

McNaught and D. Ross produced saves from the Craigie keeper but it was the home team who ended the match as a contest on 60 minutes with a great strike from 20 yards.

Two further goals from East Craigie in the last ten minutes completed the scoring.

Vics did have a couple of chances, with McNaught hitting the bar and a Strachan header drifting wide.

Team - Robbie, Gauld, Young, Cairney, Low, P. Ross, Buggins, McKenzie, McNaught, D. Ross and Strachan; subs- Valentine, Gourlay, Cooper, Matthews, S. Eaton and Colquhoun.

“This was a below par and unacceptable performance,” explained a Vics spokesperson.

“No-one hit the heights of the previous week and an improvement is required for Saturday’s home game against Arbroath Vics (kick-off 2 pm).”
