Brechin City welcomed Peterhead to Glebe Park for in the Petrofac Training Cup second round.

The visitors took the lead in the eighth minutes after the referee awarded a free kick for a Gary Fusco foul on Rory McAllister.

Jamie Stevenson stepped up to take the kick and his effort smacked off the cross bar and fell to Jamie Redman who made no mistake with the rebound.

City reacted well to going behind and Paul McLean did well to get a header on target form a Craig Molloy free kick in the 15th minute, but Graeme Smith in the Peterhead goal didn’t have to strain himself to make the save.

Peterhead should have increased their lead in the 22nd minute when McAllister shot at an open goal, but the striker managed to fire his shot wide.

City came close to equalising seven minutes before half-time when Andy Jackson had a glancing header, but his effort was agonisingly wide of the mark.

A minute in to the second half City came close to equalising again after they won a corner kick. Bobby Barr delivered in a great ball which was met by Colin Hamilton, but he couldn’t direct his header on target.

Peterhead increased their lead in the 58th minute after a great pass from McAllister from the byline found Steven Noble in the centre of the box and the Peterhead captain drilled the ball home.

Colin Hamilton had some of City’s better chances as they looked to get on the score sheet. He had a headed effort from a Trouten corner go wide, followed by a shot from the edge of the box that just failed to find the target as well.

Graeme Smith did well to deny the visitors in the 72nd minute when Mark Millar shot from long range. The effort looked destined for the back of the net but the ‘keeper was able to scratch and tip the ball over the cross bar.
