Keith Gibson was thrilled as his players responded to last week’s defeat with a great display in the East of Scotland Cup.
Broughty Athletic came from behind to knock Super League rivals Musselburgh Athletic out 3-1.
For Keith, it’s the exact thing he was looking for from his players and he praised their mental strength in being able to rebound to defeat like that.
The Fed manager said: “It was a great result on Saturday, the boys did really well especially having gone a goal down. We got a good response after the week before. We didn’t let ourselves down that game but we certainly didn’t play as well as we can. We asked for a response and we got it.
“They’re a decent team, you don’t get to the Scottish Cup final if you’re not. They’re a similar side to ourselves, they look to get the ball down and create a lot of chances but I thought we matched them well throughout the game. I think we deserved to win the game.
“They dealt with the pressure well and you’re never going to dominate for 90 minutes, but we did very well.”
Next up is a trip to face Newtongrange Star and while Keith knows that Nitten will provide his players with a stern test, the Broughty boss believes his team will go there in search of a victory, especially with such good away form.
He said: “We’re back to league business away to Newtongrange, they’re a good side and it’s a big park. They’ve definitely strengthened this season, you can see that. We’re confident in our own ability though so we’ll be going there to get a result. We tend to do better away from home as well.”
