Player-manager Darren Dods never intended to play too often last season, but the gaffer ended up playing a key on-field role in Brechin City’s survival.
His performance against Forfar Athletic in the 4-0 drubbing of their rivals was arguably the catalyst for City’s remarkable run of form that retained their League One status.
And despite Dods impressing on the park last year, the Glebe Park gaffer is hoping not to have to lace up his boots much this year at all.
He said: “I played more games last season than I thought. I’ve kept myself ticking over and I’ll do pre-season. Ideally I’m not going to play and ideally I don’t have to play much. I’m not looking to start.
“Hopefully by the end of the week we’ll be at 14 players signed which is much better than last season.
Graeme Smith’s re-signed, Willie Dyer is signing this week. We’ve kept the ones we wanted to keep. James Dale is back for pre-season as well.
“We’ve acted quickly.”
