Things are looking much rosier at Glebe Park after Brechin City enjoyed two of their most important results of the season.
They hammered Forfar Athletic 4-0 on Tuesday night before following it up with a hard-fought 1-0 win over promotion chasers Ayr United on Saturday.
Having lost their previous two games 4-1, Darren Dods was over the moon with his players’ efforts as they fight for League One survival.
And he’s hoping for another top performance at Airdrieonians this Saturday.
He said: “A week ago we’d lost 4-1 at Albion Rovers then 4-1 at Peterhead, things weren’t looking great then we’ve got two wins and we’re looking above us thinking can we maybe pull these back in.
“It’s only the second time this season we’ve got back-to-back wins so it’s massive for us being able to go and pick up six points. There’s only four points in it and we’ve still got to play Cowdenbeath so they’re not even out of sight now.
“It was great to have Lewis Spence back because he’s been doing so well for us. Andy Jackson unfortunately didn’t make it but with Lewis back in we adjusted it a wee bit, we left Robert up there with Lewis and Liam Watt getting up supporting. We were very compact and kept Ayr United frustrated and managed to get up the park and score the winner.
“It’ll be a big game for us against Airdrieonians on Saturday and of course Forfar play on Tuesday night, then they have Cowdenbeath on Saturday so something’s got to give.
“Airdrie have picked up and they’re sitting fourth in the league. Under Eddie they’ve picked right up since he came in. Jim Lister’s scored a few goals and he’s a threat.”
