Depleted Vics side narrowly lose friendly to Neilston JFC

Brechin Vics 2-3 Neilston JFC

The Vics squad was decimated as a result of holidays and injuries but they were able to include new signing Scott Black in their lineup along with three trialists against their west coast opponents. It was Neilson who took an early lead when Hopewell scored from close range.

Vics had an opportunity to equalise but Dunn had his spot kick saved by the keeper.

Dunn made amends three mins later though by heading a Lewis cross into the net from six yards.

The game was fairly even but Vics were looking the more dangerous and went ahead when a Sturrock strike from the edge of the box went in off the crossbar.

Neilston equalised on 43 minutes when Cameron turned and shot past Robbie from 12 yards.

The second half was again evenly contested with the only goal coming on 83 minutes when Paul McKay scored with a strike from 10 yards after Vics had failed to clear a corner.

Vics came close to an equaliser just before the interval but Strachan’s effort hit the post and was cleared to safety.
