Deserved victory in friendly

After securing third place in their league campaign, Brechin returned to action, and took a well deserved victory in this Inter League friendly against Lochside.

The early play was evenly matched as both sides sought out the weakness in their opponents.

Brechin took the initiative ad went ahead with only nine minutes on the clock. Winning a foul deep inside the Lochside half, Doan stepped up and drove a shot toward goal which was parried by the ‘keeper - only to be pounced upon by Irvine who knocked the ball high into the net.

Their second came 20 minutes later following some fine play by Szyjut in midfield who battled past two opposition players he sent a long searching ball through to Irvine who drove the ball home past the advancing ‘keeper for his second of the day.

Lochside pulled a goal back eight minutes later - a high searching shot from 20 yards dropping in just under the bar.

Half time: Brechin, 2; Lochside, 1.

The second half saw Brechin up the tempo and contain the Lochside midfield whilst driving a multitude of attacks at the Lochside goal.

Anderson, Walker, and Irvine were causing havoc with the Lochside defence and were supported by good performances from Doan, Reece Campbell and Syzut in midfield.

Brechin’s breakthrough came after 10 minutes. Doan, ever present in developing their attacks, sent a pass through to Walker who volleyed the ball past the helpless ‘keeper.

Further attacks on goal came from Irvine and Campbell but Brechin just could not extend the lead.

A spokesperson for the club said: “This was a fine performance from all the team, developing a series of high quality moves and working well together as a unit.”
