Darren Dods is hopeful of adding two more players to his squad ahead of Saturday’s Petrofac Training Cup game with Peterhead.

Dods completed the signing of midfielder Euan Smith after the weekend’s impressive 1-0 victory over Dundee, making it 15 players signed at Glebe Park.

The boss said he’s content with the players currently at his disposal but he said he is keen to take that number to 17 before the visit of the Blue Toon on Saturday for his first competitive game as manager.

Dods said: “We’d like to have a couple signed by the weekend if possible but we’re happy with the 15 we’ve got so far. We’ve progressed from so many trialists against Aberdeen to so many guys against Dundee being signed. It’s good progress and the squad is really beginning to gel together.”

Trialists David Weatherston and Jonathan Tiffoney will continue to train with the club with a view to securing deals with City.

Dods added that facing fellow League One clubs in the opening cup games allow his team to get used to the required standard right away.

He added: “David Weatherston missed a lot of football so we’re looking to give him a bit more training and things. We’re speaking to Jonathan Tiffoney as well so we’ll wait and see what happens. It’d be good to bring in another two or three if we could.

“In the cups it’s two teams we’ll face in the league so it’s good to face them early and look to get some confidence.”
