Primary 2 and Primary 3 children from Edzell Primary School had a magical day of football and fun at a Tesco Bank Football Challenge Festival on the pitch at the National Stadium, Hampden Park, in Glasgow earlier last week.

In total, 30 schools came together from across the country, as part of the Scottish FA’s flagship participation programme, for a finale to remember.

The Tesco Bank Football Challenge is a four-year community programme run in partnership with the Scottish FA. The project introduces football to Primary 2 and Primary 3 children (six to eight years old) across Scotland to help get them engaged in a healthy and active lifestyle.

Overall, more than 36,000 children across Scotland will have been involved in the Tesco Bank Football Challenge by June 2012.

Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan said: “The Tesco Bank Football Challenge has been a wonderful success. We established this programme having identified a real need to get children participating in football and sport in general from an early age as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. This second finale at Hampden Park symbolises everything we believe football should be about. It was fantastic to see the boys and girls from Edzell Primary School enjoy a brilliant day.”

Benny Higgins, chief executive at Tesco Bank added: “We are delighted our football programme has given so many children and teachers in Scotland the opportunity to get active and learn new skills. It’s great to see the children from Brechin having such a fantastic time at Hampden.”
