Brechin City under-14s 0, Forfar 5

A STRONG team effort from Brechin was insufficient to match an equally strong and well organised Forfar squad.

Brechin started positively with an early opportunity from Sean Duncan - a strong run down the left of the field followed by a cut inside and shot just falling outside the near post.

Forfar countered with a period of pressure, forcing Brechin goalkeeper James Sim into making a good save from a direct shot on goal and two further efforts being turned away.

Brechin counterattacked and won a well deserved corner with the resultant shot scraping just outside the far post.

Forfar then had a strong effort rising to finish just over the bar.

On 26 minutes Forfar took the lead from a through ball, the forward outrunning the Brechin defence to score.

Two minutes later Forfar again attacked to have a strong shot cleared off the line by J Sim.

Brechin took heart from the save and attacked strongly, forcing a corner and subsequently a drive through midfield from Billy Irvine with the resultant shot crossing the goalmouth, beating the ‘keeper, but passing outside the far post.

In the final minute of the first half Forfar capitalised on a good attack to score their second with a shot off the underside of the bar which crossed the goal-line

Half Time: Brechin, 0; Forfar, 2.

The start of the second half saw Forfar dominating the midfield and pressurising the Brechin defence, culminating in a well taken goal five minutes from the restart. The game continued with a midfield battle with Brechin again going close on 59 minutes - B Irvine bringing out a good save from the Forfar ‘keeper.

Forfar continued to pressurise and the period saw some strong defensive work from the Brechin side. Keagan Church-Forbes played an outstanding role in the central defence and the full defence bfroke down a number of attacks on both flanks.

On 66 minutes a long ball through the centre saw Forfar increase their lead to 4-0 with the ‘keeper beaten.

Brechin fought hard to try and recover the deficit to no avail.

Forfar finally sealed the game with a free kick in the final minute of the game.

Bill Somerville of the Brechin City Youths said: “This week again saw a strong team performance from Brechin with the teams being matched more closely than the score suggests.”
