Golf Inn were crowned champions of the Montrose and District Welfare league last Tuesday for the second year in a row, without having to kick a ball.
The Golf Inn weren’t in action, but Hudsons, the only team who could overtake them, had to beat Brechin rivals The Old Bolag to take the fight for the league title to the final matches.
Unfortunately for Hudsons, they were held to a one all draw by City Royal in the Brechin derby.
Golf Inn held a title party on Sunday afternoon, after drawing one all with Hudsons in their final league game.
The final league results were as follows:-
Fordoun Galaxy 3, Fettercairn 2; Hudsons 1, The Old Bolag 1; Fordoun Galaxy 6, The Old Bolag 7; Golf Inn 1, Hudsons 1; Hillside 10, Bervie 2.
A spokesperson for the league said: “From everyone involved in the Welfare League congratulations go to the Golf Inn who were deserved winners after dropping only seven points throughout the 24 game league season.”
Two of the five Welfare League competitions remain up for grabs with Golf Inn looking to defend the Matrix Cup when they face Fordoun Galaxy in the final in Brechin on Sunday (May 11).
Before that, the eight remaining teams will compete in the quarter finals of the Review Cup.
The results from the first round of the Matrix Cup were as follows:-
Northern Vaults 5, MCT 3; Hillside 4, St Cyrus 0; Fettercairn 4, Fordoun Galaxy 5; Golf Inn H-H The Old Bolag (The Old Bolag could not raise a team); Lochside United 2, Hudsons 7.
