Hudsons bow out of Scottish Cup

Cleats FC 3, 1 Hudsons 1

A heavily depleted Hudsons travelled to Gourock on Sunday for a Scottish cup tie against Cleats FC.

Only 11 players, plus Eissa Abdou, made the 130-mile trip to the coast.

Playing on an astroturf pitch, it took a long time for Hudsons to get going in the game.

The home side were threatening moves down the wings, but Hudsons dealt well with the threat until midway through the first half.

A low cross from the left was miss-hit by Lindsay and landed straight at the foot of the Cleats striker, who took a touch before slotting past the helpless Calder in goal.

Hudsons responded well and nearly equalised just before half time, Joe Smith cutting in from the right and fizzing a drive just past the post.

The second half was much the same story as the first, Cleats threatening down the wings

Joe Smith responded again for Hudsons, this time hitting the post with a first-time volley which soared past the goalkeeper, and rolled right along the line before being cleared to safety.

A minute later, Cleats were two up with a fine move and finish.

Poor defending from Hudsons made it three in 70 minutes. It took this long for Hudsons to really show their ability, and for the last 20 minutes they battered the Cleats goal with shots from Smith, Milne and McDonald all going close.

Ten minutes from time they pulled one back, with Euan Milne cutting in from the right and having a cross rebound back to him, which he lashed into the top corner on the volley.

Hudsons were then awarded an indirect free kick just inside the box, but a mix-up with the takers meant it was wasted, and before long the game was over.
