Hudsons reclaim top spot

Back to back wins have seen Brechin side Hudsons reclaim the top spot in the Montrose and District Welfare league.

Hudsons disposed of Picture House on February 10, before facing their closest league rivals MCT on February 17.

The league results from Sunday, February 10 were as follows:

City Royal 3, Montrose Athletic 6; Hillside 4, Fordoun Galaxy 3; Marykirk 1, Bervie Caley 6; MCT 10, Northern Vaults 0; Picture House 1, Hudsons 4.

The remaining quarter final of the Piggins Cup also took place on February 10, with Golf Inn proceeding to the semi-finals after defeating Fettercairn by four goals to one

Hudsons, who are defending champions, were at home to MCT on February 17 and took the lead after just nine minutes had been played.

They netted five goals in the first half, with three of them coming within the last ten minutes of the first half. Despite failing to score in the second half, they only conceded once and were able to secure the victory and the vital three points which now places them on 40 points, two ahead of MCT and with a game in hand.

The league results from Sunday, February 17 were:

City Royal 4, Picture House 4; Fettercairn 4, Bervie Caley 3; Fordoun Galaxy 10, Marykirk 0; Golf Inn 5, Montrose Athletic 0; Hudsons 5, MCT 1.

The Black Abbot’s tie against Northern Vaults did not go ahead.

The league fixtures for Sunday, February 24 are as follows (matches kick off at 10.45 a.m. unless stated):-

Black Abbot, Picture House (kick off at 10.30 a.m.); Hudsons, Fettercairn; Montrose Athletic, City Royal; Northern Vaults, Marykirk;

Sunday, February 24 will also see the semi-finals of the Piggins Cup taking place. Both Brechin teams, Hudson’s and City Royal, will not feature.

The fixtures are as follows (matches kick off at 10.30 a.m.):-

Fordoun Galaxy, Hillside; Golf Inn, MCT.

The other Brechin side in the league, City Royal, are currently ninth in the league, having taken 16 points from 16 matches.
