Improved second half performance sees Forfar home and dry

Forfar Boys 4

Brechin City Under-13s 2

Season 2013-14 is the first venture into 11-a-side football for the Brechin City Youths Under 13s’ squad.

The transition from seven-a-side to 11-a-side is a progressive one and with three defeats and one win so far, it was a windy trip to Lunanhead on Sunday for this league fixture against local rivals Forfar Boys.

The first 15 minutes was an even affair with the game being contested in the middle of the park and the stormy conditions making if difficult for both teams.

With a slight wind advantage it was Forfar who began to dominate proceedings and it was not long before they opened their account from long range giving Crosbie in the Brechin goal little chance.

The confidence then began to flow through the home team and another three goals were added before half time.

During the first half Brechin had created several chances with Rogerson, Steel and Stewart coming closest to opening the away teams account.

A terrific goalkeeping display by C. Crosbie in the Brechin goal kept the Forfar strikers at bay.

Despite trailing by four goals it was Brechin that came out strongest in the second half taking the game to their opponents from the start.

A new belief spread among the boys and it was not long before they pulled one back with Crosby finding the top corner after good work by Sawyer.

A Renilson through ball found Steele in space and he slipped the ball under the keeper to reduce the leeway even further.

Brechin continued to create chance after chance with Rogerson and Stewart giving both Forfar full backs a torrid time.

Despite numerous chances created, Brechin were unable to add to their total with Forfar clinching the points.

Team: C. Crosbie, Mitchell, Donald, Renilson, S. Crosbie, Sawyer, Clark, Lamb, Stewart, Rogerson, Steele. Subs: Mitchell, L. Milne, K. Milne (all used).
