Brechin City gave a great display of their improved quality as they comfortably saw off Albion Rovers 2-0 on Saturday.
Darren Young’s team were a thorn in City’s side last year and inflicted some heavy defeats on Darren Dods’ outfit.
But the much-improved Brechin put on a show at Cliftonhill to give supporters real cause for optimism for the season ahead.
Dods was over the moon to see his team continue their good form and collect a clean sheet on the way.
He said:“It was really good to go and get that win at Albion Rovers. They were a bit of a bogey team for us last year and we had some heavy defeats from them.
“The first 15-20 minutes they were in control, then we took control of the game and had some good chances. We saw the game out well and from a defensive point of view it’s great to get the clean sheet as well.”
The gaffer believes the side’s good start is down to a mix of momentum from last year’s incredible finishing run as well as the excellent pre-season preparation.
Darren continued: “I think our preparation has been much better this summer and we’ve got momentum and confidence from last season. So we’ve been able to keep that going.”
Dods is content with his squad at the moment but admitted he may look to bolster his midfield with a loan signing shortly, though he is in no rush to tap into the loan market just yet.
He added: “We’ll wait and see what happens with loans. We’re maybe a bit light in midfield but we’ll see about bringing one in to keep us going.
“That’d take us to 19 players but we’ve still got emergency loans to deal with later on.”
