Montrose Welfare league hold AGM

Two Brechin football teams will take part in the upcoming Montrose and District Welfare League is has been confirmed.

The association held its annual general meeting on July 14, at the Golf Inn.

It was confirmed at the meeting that the City Royal team from Brechin would change its name to The Old Bolag, to join the other Brechin team, Hudsons. Montrose Athletic has also had a name change, and will be called @Bar next season.

The positive meeting saw the formation of a new committee and newly formed St Cyrus FC being welcomed to the league. The inclusion of St Cyrus takes the number of teams up to 14 for the 2013/14

The new committee is delighted to announce that joinery firm Howdens has agreed to sponsor the League Cup or the coming season.

A spokesperson said: “The contribution of Howdens will pay for a new trophy and help with the costs of staging the final. The committee would like to thank Howdens for their support.”

The draw for the Howdens League Cup 2013/14 took place at the meeting and this season there will be four sections as follows: -

Section 1 - Marykirk; Golf Inn; Northern Vaults; St Cyrus.

Section 2- MCT; @Bar; Hillside; The Old Bolag.

Section 3- Bervie Caley; Black Abbot; Fordoun Galaxy

Section 4 - Picture House; Hudsons; Fettercairn

The first round of fixtures will take place on Sunday, August 11, at 10.45 a.m., then Thursday, August 15, at 6.45 p.m., and finally Sunday, August 18, at 10.45 a.m.

The winners of each section will qualify for the semi finals and the draw for these will take place at the next meeting on Tuesday, August 13.
