Narrow win for City under-14s

Lochside 3

Brechin City Youths 4

Following the Christmas and New Year break, Brechin City Youths under-14s returned to league action with a great win against Lochside on a cold, wet day, with intermittent snow showers.

Brechin started well, with the midfield competing strongly against Lochside.

However, a good pass through the Brechin defence allowed the Forfar side to score after four minutes.

Brechin bravely fought back and equalised with a well finished goal from Zach Walker.

End to end play continued with opportunities for both sides, but Lochside again took the lead after 15 minutes.

Not be outdone, Brechin bounced back with a long range shot from Conor Doan taking the score to Lochside 2, Brechin 2.

Following the restart, a lapse of concentration allowed Lochside to retake the lead, but Brechin again dug deep and equalised two minutes before half time, with a super shot from long range into the top corner of the net by Keagan Church-Forbes.

Half-time: Lochside, 3; Brechin, 3.

The second half was much more closely matched, with both teams’ defences working hard and preventing further scoring.

The breakthrough for Brechin came with 10 minutes of play remaining when Billy Irvine beat the ‘keeper to give the visitors a 4-3 lead.

Lochside tried valiantly to equalise but were kept at bay by outstanding defensive performances from Alasdair Watson, Conor Doan, Rory Allison, Grant Souter, Euan Somerville and “stand in” goalkeeper Bartosz Kumkowski.

Bill Somerville of Brechin City Youths said: “A special mention to all who took part as this was a super team effort - with great difficulty in choosing an individual man of the match.

“Thanks again to all parents and supporters who came along on such a cold, miserable winter day.

“Your support is greatly appreciated by the boys.”
