Second half goal win for U-16s

Brechin City Youths Under-16s returned to league duties and retained their current unbeaten run with a victory away at Forfar.

In a match dictated by a strong crossfield wind, both teams fought to gain control of the midfield

Forfar were the first to have an attempt on goal when a right-field move ended with their player being fouled just inside the penalty box. However, the spot kick was driven over the bar.

Brechin fought to get into the game as possession swung between both sides. They created an excellent opportunity was from the right, with Irvine set free and driving toward goal before crossing the ‘keeper, but his shot was cleared off the line.

Half-time: Forfar Under-16s 0, Brechin Under 16s 0.

Straight from the restart Brechin drove forward, pressing hard down the right. A lofted ball from Duncan was pounced upon by Irvine who drove the ball high and across the goalkeeper into the back of the net.

The game stepped up a pace in tempo and in passion as Brechin tried to extend their lead, and Forfar tried to equalise.

Szyjut came closest for Brechin with a fine shot from 20 yards out but the ball went narrowly over the bar with the ‘keeper looking to have been beaten.

A club spokesperson said: “Although the full team played excellently in a fine team performance, man of the match for Brechin was Grant Souter who was solid in defence and tireless in developing opportunities for his midfield and forwards.”
