Second half lapse costs

Brechin City Youths Under-16s had a late second half lapse of concentration when they welcomed Tayport.

From the start, Tayport performed well, pressing the Brechin midfield and defence as they strove to take control.

With 10 minutes played, the visitors took the lead after they were awarded a free kick inside the Brechin half. The ball was floated in and collected by the Tayport forward who had a clear shot past Sim in the Brechin goal.

Their second came just after the half hour, a drive down the right wing ended in a cut back from the by-line which was met by a solid shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Half-time: Brechin Under-16s 0, Tayport 2.

With 22 minutes gone, Sim in the Brechin goal prevented Tayport extending their lead – a strong cross goal shot looked to be heading for the back of the net but a superb diving save saw the ball tipped round the post.

However with nearly thirty minutes played in the second half Brechin went further behind and the game was all but over. Three goals in 10 minutes saw Tayport take an unassailable five nil lead.

A club spokesperson said: “Brechin played well, they were matched and overcome on the day by Tayport. Strong performances by Ryan Campbell, and Cameron Thomson in defence and Walker up front, supported a strong team display.”
