Brechin City welcomed Stenhousemuir to Glebe Park this afternoon (Saturday) as they looked to build on their recent results.
Brechin thought they had taken the lead in the 11th minute, when Andy Jackson headed the ball home, but the linesman flagged for offside.
Jackson again came close in the 19th minute with a fierce shot, but Chris Smith pulled of a great save to deny the on form striker.
However, it was Stenhousemuir who took the lead in the 38th minute, with their second clear attack of the afternoon. A low shot from Bryan Hodge at the edge of the book evaded Callum Antell in the City goal.
Smith in the Stenhousemuir goal came to his sides rescue twice in the final minutes of the first half - first with a point blank save from Ryan Donnelly before then scrambling to deny Jackson.
City looked sure to equalise in the 62nd minute when Alan Trouten was fouled in the box and the ref duly pointed to the spot. However, Smith, ever the torn in City’s side, guessed right and saved Trouten’s resulting penalty kick.
Antell came to City’s rescue in the 82nd minute when he saves a shot on the line.
The homeside couldn’t find their elusive equaliser and visitors bagged all three points.
