Brechin City got their Betfred League Cup campaign off to a winning start, with a 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion at Glebe Park last night.
City took the lead after just 13 minutes, with Ally Love collecting the ball from a long pass from Darren McCormack, and slotting it past Stirling’s ‘keeper, Callum Binnie.
However a penalty eight minutes before the break put Stirling back on level terms. City defender Gareth Rodger brought down Eddie Ferns in the box, and Blair Henderson netted from the spot.
With the match looking like heading to a penalty decider - which would have gained the winning team a bonus point - Alan Trouten put the game to bed, netting with five minutes to spare.
Love picked up the ball at the left edge of the Stirling penalty-box and flighted a cross into the box for ‘Trouts’ who volleyed the ball past Binnie.
City are back in action this Saturday when they travel to take on Elgin City.
