Two cup reverses for Vics

Carnoustie Panmure 4 Brechin Vics 0

Vics travelled to face their Super League opponents and knew they were in for a hard game.

The opening 20 mins was fairly even with both sides coming close. Myles had an effort saved for Vics on 16 minutes with Robbie making a good save from a header from six yards.

Gradually Carnoustie began to take control and scored the opener on 25 minutes when a back post header found the unmarked Robertson who scored from ten yards.

They made it two on the half hour when Vics failed to clear and Scott scored from six yards. Robbie produced a great save to keep Vics in contention.

Vics again took the game to Carnoustie at the start of the half but could not produce a clear cut chance.

Vics fell further behind on the hour when a shot was cleared off the line and Scott followed up to score the rebound.

Vics were not giving up and on 65 minutes Duff had a shot saved by the keeper. Vics replaced S. Eaton and Myles with Gauld and Barker.

C. Eaton set up Barker on 75 minutes but his header was saved by the keeper.

C. Eaton was next to try his luck for Vics but his shot was wide of the target.

Carnoustie completed the scoring eight minutes from time when Clark curled a shot from 20 yards past the helpless Robbie.

Although disappointed with some aspects of the game Vics can have no complaints having been beaten by the better side. Vics had another difficult game on Saturday when Kirrie Thistle visited Victoria Park again in a League Cup Section match.

Thistle were far too good for Vics and won by six goals to one.

The Brechin side took an early lead through Lewis Fyfe, bit Kirrie Thistle were back on level terms before the break through Ross Sievwright.

The second half belonged to the visitors and they went on to win by six goals to one, Dave Millar, Paul Cooney, Steven Barclay, James Russell and Keith Chalmers all netting.

This coming Saturday, Brechin Vics travel to take on Coupar Angus in another League cup section match.
