Under-13s rue missed chances

Brechin City Youths Under 13’s travelled to St Andrews on Sunday for this league clash with their Fife opponents with the points going to the home side.

St Andrews Colts 7

Brechin City Youths 4

St Andrews emerged with all three points despite an evenly fought contest with not much between both teams, with a mixture of missed chances and poor defending proving to be the difference.

It was the visitors who started strongest with a couple of early chances falling to Pionke and Sawyer and on 15 minutes Pionke opened the scoring getting on the end of a through pass to finish low past the keeper.

Chances where falling to both teams and in the space of four minutes St Andrews scored two goals to take the lead. With halftime approaching Sawyer put Pionke through on goal with the finishing shot just going over the bar for a 2-1 half time score.

Brechin started the second half positively and after a goalmouth scramble following a corner, Lamb squeezed the ball over the line to draw the teams level.

The lead was short lived however with St Andrews scoring again to be followed by a Sam Crosbie equaliser.

The home team then had a dominant passage of play with their speed causing problems for the Brechin defence resulting in three goals being added to the home total.

The game ended with a further Pionke goal for Brechin and another for St Andrews ending up with a 7-4 home win.

Despite the disappointment of the Brechin players it was another step in their development with a lot of positives taken from their play.
