Brechin City Youths Under-14s played host to Tayport on Sunday at Public Park, with a win needed to get back into the title race.
Brechin took the game to the opposition from the kick-off with Mitchell and Rogerson causing problems for the visitors down both flanks, accompanied by the clever movement of Steele and Stewart up front.
Midfield was dominated by Sawyer and Crosby, with the home defence soaking up any pressure that came their way.
Brechin began to create chances after chance and just as it looked like it might be one of those days Rogerson crossed from the left to the edge of the box and Sawyer scored with a left foot volley.
A short time later it was Rogerson again, whose shot was save by the Tayport ‘keeper, but Steele was on hand to knock home the rebound.
The third followed a short time later with Stewart getting on to the end of a ball into the box and finishing high into the net for a handsome half-time lead.
Half-time: Brechin U-14s 3, Tayport U-14s 0.
Numerous changes were made during the second half to ensure that all the boys got plenty time on the park, with chances falling to the home team but the scoreline remaining the same for a well earned victory.
Team: Clark, Milne, Lamb, Akers, Marwood, S. Crosby, Sawyer, Rogerson, Stewart, A. Mitchell and Steele. Subs (all used): Donald, Grieve, Stuart, C. Crosby and M. Mitchell.
The Man of the Match award was shared between Sawyer and Akers.
