Vics narrowly defeated

East Craigie 3

Brechin Vics 2

Brechin Vics suffered a setback heading into their clash against East Craigie when Charlie Fertacz failed a fitness test.

East Craigie were first to threaten but Robbie saved well from a shot by McNally.

They took the lead on eight minutes when Young was adjudged to have fouled the striker and a penalty kick was awarded. Wilson stepped up and duly scored from the spot.

Vics were struggling to get their passing game together, but they came close to an equaliser when Dunn smashed a great shot from 25 yards off the crossbar.

The home side extended their lead on 18 minutes when Wilson converted at the front post from six yards.

The wind played havoc as the teams tried to control the game and it was East Craigie who scored again, when Wilson completed his hat trick from the spot after McKay had handled a cross into the box.

Vics came out after the break and dominated the second half. First to threaten was King who went on a fine run, but his shot hit the side netting.

They pulled a goal back on 55 minutes when Dunn headed past the ‘keeper from 10 yards.

The visitors were pushing for a further goal but found it difficult to create a clear cut chance.

Eventually that chance came in 77 minutes when Whitworth was upended in the box and King stepped up scored from the resulting penalty.

A club spokesperson said: “An improvement will be necessary for the home fixture against Kennoway Star Hearts on Saturday, August 23. Kick off is at 2.30 p.m.”
