Loan star Lee Erwin bagged a brace as the Lichties saw off Angus rivals Brechin City.
Brechin created first chance in eight minutes when a Barr corner found McLean but his header was just wide when he should have scored.
Arbroath broke away and Erwin turned well on left and found Sheerin whose shot was inches past Smith’s left hand post.
The Lichties grabbed the lead in 15 minutes. Erwin picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box, sidestepped a challenge and smashed an unstoppable drive into the net.
Linn came close in 21 minutes when he cut in from the le but curled a shot just over.
Five minutes later Morrison came to Arbroath’s rescue brilliantly tipping away a goal bound header from Donnelly after a fine cross from S. Jackson.
The Maroons went two up with a spectacular strike from Erwin who collected a short corner from Linn and fired an unstoppable shot into the net from the left.
It was all the home side and Linn was just wide with a shot after Milne brilliantly won the ball in midfield.
Half-time: Arbroath 2, Brechin City 0.
In 54 minutes Linn tried to break away and set up Erwin but Hay made a timely intervention.
Moments later Milne broke into the area but Smith made a fine save.
Milne was then scythed down by Brown as he tried to latch on to an Erwin cut back but referee said no to what looked a clear cut penalty claim.
Brechin then grabbed a goal back when a effort by Barr took a massive deflection and rolled into the net past Scott Morrison.
In 58 minutes Linn outpaced McLauchlan but Smith raced from his line to save the day.
Erwin should have completed his hat trick on 70 minutes. Linn made a brilliant run down the right and cut ball bac for him, but he contrived to shoot over from four yards.
City almost levelled when S. Jackson fired in a superb free kick from 25 yards which smashed off the crossbar.
