Brechin came out on top of the Angus derby as Arbroath slipped to their 12th game without a win.
A goal by Bobby Barr on 38 minutes was enough for Ray Mckinnon’s men to move up to seventh while the Lichties remain in ninth place on 14 points, only two ahead of bottom club Airdrie.
Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin handed a debut to new signing Kevin Nicoll as they looked to end their miserable run of results.
However, it was Brechin who had the pick of the chances in the first half and on 38 minutes, they went ahead.
A free kick into the box was flicked on by Ewan Moyes who played the ball to Barr, who slotted home from close range.
That goal proved to be the only one of the game, despite the Lichties playing the better football in the second half, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
But even though they had numerous chances, it was the Glebe Park men who took maximum points.
