Wind hampers play for Brechin youths

Brechin City Youths Under 15s travelled to Dundee for a third consecutive away game to play Discovery in their final league game.

The starting 11 was dictated by some regulars missing due to injury and attending the Scottish semi-final.

Brechin took a while to get some rhythm going and conceded a goal after 10 minutes.

This galvanised City and, playing against the wind, they continued to create chances to equalise. However, good goal keeping from the Discovery ‘keeper kept the score blank.

The home side took heart from this and scored a second just on half time.

Half-time: Discovery U15s, 2; Brechin U15s, 0.

The second half opened with Brechin playing with the strong wind behind them and pushed forward at every opportunity and they were soon rewarded with a goal from Szyjut, after a lovely floated corner in from Anderson.

Brechin continued to push forward, but the wind was making it difficult to judge the weight of pass forward.

As they searched for an equaliser in the last few minutes, Discovery countered and scored a goal which secured their win.

Team: Sim, Somerville, Soutar, Barreiro, Allison, Booth, Anderson, Walker, Irvine, Duncan, Church-forbes, Campbell, Smith and Szyjut.

A club spokesman said: “This was the last competitive fixture of a very successful season in which the boys have continued to improve and have been a credit. A special thank you for the support of the boys’ parents at the games and bringing them to training.”
