Brechin’s recent run of three in a row was brought to an end by a talented visiting Kirriemuir team.

From the whistle, the away side looked very comfortable on the ball, making quick passes whilst keeping possession through the advancing Brechin players.

The deadlock was broken on nine minutes with Kirriemuir taking the lead after a slick move saw the Kirriemuir forward easily glide past the Brechin defence and comfortably slot home.

Brechin struggled to get any long term possession, but continued to hassle the away team, attempting to prevent their momentum.

The game continued to be dominated by the visitors, with much of the play being within the Brechin half.

On 22 minutes, Kirriemuir won a free kick on the left after Marc Gilbert was alleged to have brought the winger down. Up stepped the player, who floated in the free kick into the bottom right corner of the goal.

The second half began better for Brechin, the introduction of Masson with his energetic hassling and runs halted the well versed Kirriemuir team.

Brechin’s first effort saw Cameron Stout drive into the chest of the Kirrie ‘keeper.

Kirriemuir increased their lead on 61 minutes after their Kirriemuir forwards completed several one-two’s before wrong footing O’Neill.

A minute later, saw Brechin’s best chance. Masson floated over a free kick to the back post and the advancing Black headed just over the bar.

The Kirriemuir number five on a solo run drove through from his own half, strolled past the Brechin defence and firing past O’Neill to make it four.

Kirriemuir had several more chances to increase their lead, but O’Neill with several spectacular saves and outstretched legs prevented any further goals.
