Brechin never lost control of this friendly against Montrose Vics taking the initiative from the start.

The second goal came from the spot after Irvine was brought down in the box. Duncan calmly stepping up and converted convert the penalty.

Three goals within the five minutes sealed the game for Brechin. The first came from another Szyjut and Irvine combination - with Irvine volleying high into the net.

Brechin’s four came from a trialist, who drove a low shot across goal from the right of the field.

He was involved in Brechin’s fifth, driving a long searching ball for Irvine who deftly slotted the ball beneath the ‘keeper with his weaker left foot.

Half-time: Brechin City U16s 5, Montrose Vics 0.

The second half saw some fine play by Brechin but the boys were unable to capitalise on the chances until seven minutes from time. Anderson received the ball from the trialist and slotted it beneath the ‘keeper.

A club spokesperson said: “Although a good first half performance, Brechin failed to capitalise on their second half chances. The game provided a good opportunity to try out new formations and develop the team plan for the season.”
