Dundee West 1
Brechin City youths played their first game since November 22, at Broomfield Montrose as Brechin pitches were unplayable.
Youths kicked off the Ross Ballentine Cup quarter final with a strong wind behind them. This affected their passing.
Brechin kept pressing to break the deadlock but Dundee West were time-wasting at every opportunity.
Stalemate was broken two minutes from half- time when a 25-yard free kick from Connor Melville smashed off the post and Bailey SAWYER was first to react and coolly slotted the ball home.
Due to the strong wind to their advantage in the second half, Dundee West thought they had the game won. However, Brechin rolled their sleeves up and produced an outstanding team performance.
Sawyer played a through ball to Page who slipped it through to SANGSTER who ran through the heart of the visitors’ defence to shoot home.
Brechin were in dreamland with 10 minutes left when a through ball found Cameron CRAIG in space. He ran through and shot home to put Brechin even closer to their first semi-final.
With Dundee West rarely seen as a attacking force they did score a goal in the last minute with a wind assisted free kick.
Brechin restarted and the ref blew for full time.
A very pleased manager Murdo Anderson said afterwards: “That was an excellent hard working performance by everyone. We played some nice football in the second half while we defended as a solid unit. The boys can all be very happy with the first half of the season and we look forward to what the second half brings.”
