Jamie to become a 'red man' as Weir makes a first signing
BRECHIN City manager Jim Weir will complete the first signing of his time at Glebe Park with the recruitment of Arbroath midfield player, Jamie Redman, once the player returns from holiday.
The Glebe Park manager was keen to stress that Redman was subject to numerous enquiries, not just from Brechin City, prior to him leaving to take over his present post.
He also stated that he hopes to have another player fixed up by the end of this week.
He said: "We are hopeful that Jamie will prove to be a very useful addition to our squad.
"He's presently on holiday and we are just awaiting him coming back so we can get the paperwork completed.
"I have obviously spoken to Jamie and put on offer to him. However, nothing was agreed, because he had one or two other options. Preliminary talks with Brechin had actually started, while I was still manager of Arbroath.
"Jamie will bring energy to the team, a goal threat from the middle of the park.
"He is a great lad to work with and he is a really fit individual. He's the type that is receptive to anything you ask him to do and is very much a team player.
His work-rate is fantastic and I am hopeful he will help us get goals from the middle of the park, which is a big bonus for any team.
"We have also agreed new terms with Neil Janczyk and Barry Smith has also agreed to spend another year with us.
"Everyone at Brechin will be aware of the contribution these two have made, so this is a really positive step. Both are experienced players who would be of benefit to any team.
"We are keen to keep the nucleus of the squad here.
"However, we know the areas we need to strengthen. We know we need to get a left-back in, another centre half and certainly strikers. So we are in the market for these players.
"I am also a fan of the loan situation and we would hope to exercise that as well.
"The club is presently looking at getting decent quality opposition to face us on July 17.
"I will be looking for a bounce game around about July 7, we will play Stirling Albion away on July 10, while we have provisionally should have Greenock Morton here on Tuesday, July 13.
"On July 21 we will play St Mirren at Glebe Park and then we are into the cup games for real."
Brechin have been drawn away from home in both early season cup competitions - away to East Fife in the Alba tourney and at Stenhousemuir in the Co-operative Insurance Cup first round.
"Any draw in the cup away from home is a difficult one," continued the manager.
"However, by the time we are at those games, we will be at full speed.
"East Fife is a club with excellent players and an excellent young manager.
"The Co-op cup game at Stenhousemuir will be equally tough. However, we must look at these as winnable games and ones that we have to be well prepared for and ready to hit the ground running.
"We start back training on June 22 and the players will all train together.
"Initially we will train in Perth and either at Kilgraston or Kinross. However, throughout the season we will also train in Brechin on occasions when we deem fit."
