Edzell’s Alastair Webster is ready to clash with the stars of the European Senior Tour after finishing in a share of third place at the Senior PGA Professional Championship at Northants County.

Webster is set to compete in the £250,000 ISPS Handa PGA Senior Championship for the fourth successive year, following his solid display at Northants County last week.

The 1990 PGA Professional Championship winner posted rounds of 73, 67 and 70 over the testing Midlands course to finish level par for the week and also secure a pay day in excess of £2,100.

Webster began the day in seventh spot but his level par final round was more than adequate for him to rise up the leader board as the main title contenders faltered.

“I was lying seventh and coming third is no surprise as I was hoping to come up through the field,” he said.

“I’ve only had one bogey over the final two rounds and that’s pretty good. Today I’ve had one birdie and one bogey and missed two greens at most.

“I played well and yet I’ve hardly played at all recently so I must have found the magic somewhere.”

The tournament was won by Paul Wesselingh at four-under-par, with fellow Scot Garry Harvey second at one-under-par.
