Low 'raker' the icing on the cake for Stables

Stables 5, Marykirk 0 - Stables travelled up to Marykirk for their latest league clash at the weekend.

Straight from the start Stables won a corner but Southam's cross found no takers. The visitors continued to dominate proceedings, but strikers Ross and McIntosh were finding life difficult against a stuffy defence.

However, on the half-hour mark Stables got the breakthrough they deserved. A good pass from Skipper Clark Renilson found Mark Garnes who rifled a rare right-foot shot into the back of the net.

After the break Stables moved up a gear. Keeper Bruce Ritchie was merely a spectator as his defence of Potter, Forbes, Strachan and Renilson were mopping up everything Marykirk could throw at them.

The midfield of Smith, Robertson, Garnes and Southam were also controlling the pace of the game. With 50 minutes on the clock the visitors got their second after a good move released Jordan McIntosh and his shot went past the keeper into the back of the net.

Three minutes later and a loose ball in the Marykirk box fell to Jordan McIntosh six yards out and he fired the ball high into the net.

And it was 4-0 just two minutes later after a good move found Colin Ross in space, and his shot on the turn sailed high into the net.

Marykirk did manage a couple of attempts on goal but never really troubled Bruce Ritchie in the Stables goal.

On the 89th minute substitute Craig Low won the ball on the half-way line and drove forward, with the Marykirk defence backing off he unleashed what can only be described as a left-foot raker from 25 yards out that left the Marykirk keeper no chance.

Stables Manager Graham Bruce said afterwards: "A magnificent display today from start to finish, and what a goal to end the game from Craig Low."

Stables travel to Montrose next week for a league encounter with the Golf Inn. Players should meet at the Stables car park for 9.45am. Training will be on Thursday at 6.15pm over at Wards Road.
