Brechin’s model boat club hosted the annual model yacht association’s Scottish Championships for IOMs (international one metre class) on Sunday at the Brechin Castle Centre.
Despite the increasing trend towards high-tech computer designed carbon fibre crafts entries to this contest were restricted to wooden hauled boats.
Skippers with international event experience from Aberdeen, Buchaness (Peterhead), Levenhall (Edinburgh) and Kickcaldy took part and were rewarded with almost ideal warm weather.
The light and variable winds put a premium on course chosen direction and tactical sailing.
In a series of 18 races home club members were regularly in the leading boats.
Andrew Haxton presented a cup to the winner, Alastair Law of Buchanness, second was Ian Dundas of Aberdeen, Colin McGinness of Brechin was third and Ralph Knowles of Brechin came fourth.
Alastair Law gave due credit to sailing convenor Ralph Knowles and his team for a very successful event and expressed all the skippers appreciation of the venue at the Brechin Castle Centre.
