Angus Council has revealed the baton bearers selected for the Queen’s Baton Relay.
The relay is set to travel through Angus on Saturday, June 28. A number of baton bearers have been revealed by the local authority - including Dana McFarlane from Brechin. Dana, who has been a Young Ambassador in Brechin High School for some time, has been making an outstanding contribution to encourage and support other young people to take part in sport in the town.
Other selected baton bearers include Alison McInally, who has been volunteering for Grange Primary School for the past nine years. Duncan Reid, who has represented Tayside Special Olympics at Ten Pin Bowling, has also been selected, as has Abbi Aitken, the only Scottish female cricketer to ever take a hat trick.
Phil Aiken, who has volunteered with girls football in Kirriemuir for over 11 years, has also been unveiled as a baton bearer.
Convener of the Angus Games Steering Group, councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “Congratulations to all the local athletes and community champions who will be carrying the baton. This announcement brings us one step closer to the Games in July and it’s good to see local people being given an opportunity to be part of this major event and hopefully inspire a new generation of young people to see the benefits of sport and leisure activities.”
