Brechin Beavers Swimming club travelled to Dundee Olympia Swimming Pool last Saturday to compete in the Tayside Age Group League Gala Series.
The 9 years and under girls team of Rebekah Angus, Nina Kerr, Maia Birse Archbald and Bryony Adams kicked off the gala with a third place in the Medley relay. This was followed by a tremendous relay swim from the 9 years and under boys, Kyle Steel, Alex Thomson, Kenzi McMillan and Rennie McMillan to a strong first place finish.
This was followed by another first place for the 10/11 years boys team of Ben Steel, Joel Thomson, Segae Ugbe and Jack McDonald.
The girls in the 10/11 years and 12/13 years relays were missing some of their age group team swimmers so were unable to compete in the relays for points. This did not stop them though as they joined together to use the opportunity as practice swims for their individual events. Well done Beth Greig, Rhiannan Crockatt, Hayley Fraser and Aimee Mackie.
The 12/13 years boys Aaron Angus, Liam Willis, Liam Brown and Robert Black held onto a fantastic second place.
Following the Medley Relays the Beavers were leading in the scores which gave the team a huge boost.
First place swims came from Alex Thomson in Breast Stroke, Kyle Steel in Back stroke, Segae Ugbe, Kenzi McMillan and Maia Birse Archbald in Fly and Jack McDonald in Freestyle. Captain Sarah Howe and Vice-Captains Juliette Simpson and Sai Welsh, and all our 14 years and overs swimmers (Ross Rankin, Keir Rankin and Ross Collie) were great role models for the younger swimmers not only in their swimming but in their continued commitment to the squad.
The final events of Freestyle Relays resulted in first places for 9 years and under boys, 10/11 years boys and 14 years boys (Sai Welsh, Keir Rankin, Ross Collie and Ross Rankin).
Every point counted and special mentions must be made to the swimmers who stepped in at last minute to represent the club at short notice. These were Segae Ugbe, Robert Black, Fiona Shanks and Julie Thomson.
This was a first Tayside league gala for two swimmers Bryony Adams and Rhiannan Crockatt who swam brilliantly!
The Beavers finished in a comfortable third place. Overall results were Menziehill 145, Monifieth 142, Brechin 136, Forfar 107 and Carnoustie 101.
This was another exciting gala for all who took part, their coaches and the many home supporters who came along to watch.
