BRECHIN rider Ryan Watson had an eventful weekend at Snetterton.
As part of the Doodson-backed Team Colin Appleyard/Macadam, Ryan, competing in the Motostar Championship, although not quite emulating his second place at Oulton Park, continued to be on the pace all weekend.
Throughout Friday’s practice and for most of Saturday’s first qualifying he was in poll position.
Unfortunately, in the latter stages of the session he crashed out.
He experienced the same fate in the afternoon’s second qualifying which left him third on the grid for Sunday’s race.
The crashes knocked his confidence slightly and, after the first lap, he found himself back in tenth place after a poor start.
He then started to battle back and eventually, despite suffering front end problems, crossed the line in fourth place just missing out on a podium finish.
Afterwards he commented: “Last year at Snetterton I finished second and I was hoping to go one better this year but it was not to be.
“All weekend I was trying to get to grips with front end issues but the engine was strong so I’ll be aiming for better things next time out.”
His manager, Robin Appleyard, said
“After Oulton Park and the podium Ryan really stepped up and, although we struggled to iron out the front end handling issues, I’m confident he’ll be there, or there abouts, at Knockhill when he tests there”
There is now a break before Knockhill on the weekend of June 23/24.
