2015 is gearing up to be a busy time for Brechin Junior Rugby Club, especially for the veterans team, The BRUCE.

On February 6, a 37-strong contingent will travel to Paris to watch Scotland’s opening 6 Nations match.

The players will be back in action come March, with matches against Howe of Fife in Cupar on March 14, and a trip to face Mammoths of Stonehaven on March 28.

In April, they will take part in an exhibition match at Lathallan School to celebrate the opening of their sports Pavilion.

Bruce will host Reggio Old Becks from Italy on May 28. A welcome party will be held in their honour, and the following they will be taking part in the Brechin Pageant competing in a series of events with and against the BRUCE’s. A planned Civic reception with local dignitaries, sponsors and friends of the clubs will follow. The following day will see the two sides in action on the pitch.

The spokesperson said: “This visit is hugely important to the club and should help the club and town with a bit of publicity and give local companies and hotels a wee boost.”

In July, BRUCE will take part in the seventh Scottish Golden Oldies Festival in Kinloss, the biggest annual event for Veterans Rugby. Brechin has been invited to host the eighth Festival and it could be a huge event for the town with teams from all over the country taking part.

Also to come this year is events with the juniors, including a camping trip, fireworks display and a trip to Murrayfield. The spokesperson added: “The club as a whole is facing several challenges in the months ahead but with players, parents, coaches, sponsors and supporters rallying around these will be met head on and make the club stronger and healthier and keep them at the heart of our community which is what the Club is all about.”
