Angus Council Sports Development Team in partnership with Scottish Hockey and Brechin Thistle Ladies Hockey Club are providing children aged 10-19 years with the chance to take part in a new CashBack for Communities initiative called hockey nights at Brechin Leisure Centre.
CashBack for Communities is a programme of diversionary activities for young people to increase the opportunities they have to develop their interests and skills in an enjoyable, fulfilling and supported way.
The Hockey Nights initiative will take the format of small games, with a basic introduction to the skills of hockey and will be delivered by qualified Scottish Hockey coaches. All hockey equipment will be provided for these sessions and be free of charge to attend.
Sports Development Officer Laura Baxter said “We were delighted with the success and continued support of the programme in Arbroath and we feel that it would be of benefit to roll it out in Brechin.
“This is an ideal opportunity to bring new children to a sport they may never have had any contact with in the past.
“We hope that this diversionary activity turns into a developmental activity with the youngsters who attend the Hockey Night sessions accessing a local club set up such as Brechin Thistle Ladies Hockey Club or Monarchs Hockey club in Arbroath for continued participation in the sport.”
The Hockey Nights sessions will take place at Brechin Leisure Centre and will run for 10 weeks every Tuesday evening 6 pm - 7pm from May 3 to July 5
