Brechin Buccaneers Cricket Club may soon have their lease of Guthrie Park cricket and rugby ground extended to secure Lottery funding.

The club recently signed a lease on the ground, held on Brechin Common Good land, for ten years. However, since having that lease accepted it has transpired that the club requires a lease of at least 20 years to secure Lottery Funding.

The council has been asked to confirm the extension of lease from ten years to 25 years subject to suitable rent reviews and any other necessary amendments of the lease.

Brechin Bucccaneers Cricket Club formed in 2008 following the collapse of Brechin Cricket Club, with the aim to encourage the youngsters to learn the skills of cricket, enjoy the game, install sportsmanship and respect, improve social skills and make new friends and to progress through the squads and move up to play for the seniors.

Brechin Buccaneers, have three coaches, Murray Johnstone, Jim Patterson and Nigel Robertson, who are qualified at level 1 and Grant Hutcheson who is affiliated to the club through Cricket Scotland’s Angus Development programme. The club has four squads - Kwik Cricket, age 7 -11, Under 13’s, Under 15’s and Under 18’s - who all compete in their own leagues and cup competitions through the season.
