Brechin Buccaneers are pleased to announce that the final preparations are well underway for the bicentenary event to be held at Guthrie Park from Saturday, June 20, to Sunday June 28.
The 200 anniversary booklets are currently on sale at a cost of £5 each with information, pictures and tales from the past involving people involved with the club. The booklet also provides an opportunity to win a 2 night bed and breakfast stay at the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace, Versailles, Paris.
A limited edition tie is also on sale at a cost of £12 and is in the club colours.
The events start with a fund-raiser quiz night from 7pm on Wednesday, June 17 to be held at Parkview Bowling Club in order to raise funds for the 200 events. Teams are invited to email email@example.com if they wish to enter at a cost of £10 per team. This is payable on the night.
The events to mark 200 years of cricket within Brechin will involve all age groups and includes a Kwik Cricket festival on the 20th for the younger age groups under 10 years, followed by a 2 innings Under 13s match with Callander Cricket Club.
On Sunday 21st there will be the return of the 6 a side tournament for the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union teams and will include Arbroath, Montrose, Meigle, Strathmore, Forthill and Dalnacraig cricket clubs.
On Monday 22nd there will be a mini hardball match with Forfarshire and Tuesday 23rd an Under-13 game with Arbroath.
Wednesday 24th June brings a first for cricket in Brechin when the 40s Club of Scotland will take on the Bucs in a match commencing at 2pm.
Friday 25th June sees a community 7 a side social game where teams of 7 will play a fun tournament using the “Turbo 10” format a new and exciting way of playing leisure cricket. Teams of 7 are invited to enter at a nominal cost of £15 to subsidise food items for the barbecue and must include over 40s within their team. The first 4 teams to apply and pay will be accepted on a first come first served basis. This will be played as a group, guaranteeing three matches, with the top 2 playing a final.
The penultimate game on Saturday 26th June will see a commemorative match of the first game of cricket 200 years ago where a Lord Southesk’s XI will take on a Brechin Buccaneers select side including former players.
Sunday 27th June brings the curtain down on the 200 events when a President of Cricket Scotland’s XI will play Brechin Buccaneers.
