Brechin’s Super league darts’ team secured their first point of the season, after earning a hard fought draw against Arbroath ‘B’.
The match took place on Friday, May 17, and saw 12 singles matches take place, with Brechin trailing 4-1 after the first five.
Three wins on the bounce, coming from Andy Donald, Kevin Mccaffrey and man-of-the-match Ray Porterfield, brought Brechin level at four wins apiece.
However, Arbroath continued to press and went on to take the next leg to regain the lead.
Malcolm Gibb displayed fine form as he secured his tie, bring the scores level once more with just two singles matches left to play.
Arbroath took the 11th tie, leaving Brechin needing to win the 12th to have any hope of taking away a point from the night.
The final singles match was closely contested with the Brechin and District Darts’ singles champion Martin Taylor, facing off against an up-and-coming Angus Youth Academy Darts’ player, Jamie Roy, who has played at an international level.
It didn’t look good for Brechin when Roy took a two leg lead, but Taylor brought his play up to another level to ramp up the pressure and take the third leg. Taylor gained in confidence and was able to keep his composure to win the final two legs, to secure the 6-6 draw, and a point for the homeside.
