Brechin’s Super League team caused a major upset in Arbroath on July 12, when they secured their third successive draw.
The team travelled to take on Arbroath ‘A’ who were previously undefeated and only lost one match in the 2012 season.
However, Brechin were more than delighted to break Arbroath’s streak, extending their own unbeaten run to three in the process.
Brechin started off well, taking the first two ties to go in the lead, but Arbroath kept their cool and brought themselves level.
It was then a case of catch up for Arbroath, until they edged ahead in the 11th tie through Scottish internationalist, Alan Soutar.
The win for Arbroath gave them a 6-5 lead going in to the 12th and final tie of the night.
It was left to Ray Porterfield for Brechin to give the visitors a tie and deny Arbroath their fourth win of the league season.
Despite losing the first leg, Porterfield kept his composure to win the next three and give his side a memorable draw.
Brechin were bottom going into the fixture and the draw has seen them move two places in to fourth place, above Laurencekirk (fifth) and Arbroath ‘B’ (bottom). Brechin are next in action on Friday, August 2, when they travel to take on Forfar.
