Brechin Golf Club is preparing to expand its remit, after converting two old squash courts in to a fitness suite and golf simulator.
The club, which also took control of the restaurant this year, is hosting an open evening on Friday (November 28) from 6 to 8 p.m to showcase the new ventures.
Stephen Rennie, director of golf at the club, explained: “We wanted to utilise the space we had with the squash courts. They haven’t generated much revenue, and the best way to generate more income for the club, whilst making the best use of the space, was to create a fitness suite and golf simulator.”
He added: “Our new fitness suite has 18 pieces of equipment and we hope it will appeal, not to just to our golf members, but to people who don’t currently use the club. We are offering monthly memberships, or annual memberships with two free months.”
The new simulator is a state of the art and has nearly 100 courses available to play - including Carnoustie, St Andrews and Augusta.
With the winter weather affecting golf, the club hopes that the simulator will allow members to continue to play. The simulator available to book by the hour by members and visitors, with up to eight players able to play.
Stephen added: “I have even been carrying out some lessons using the simulator and it’s a great way to get some one-one advice on your game, and it provides plenty of great feedback on all your shots.”
During the open evening, members of the public and current golf club members will have a chance to view the new fitness suite and golf simulator, whilst also finding out about the club’s various membership opportunities. Stephen added: “We have also managed to agree a reciprocal deal with Kirriemuir Golf Club where Brechin members can play there free of charge.”
