Kings of golf

Former Brechin man Marc Gentles met musical royalty recently, as two members of the band The Kings Of Leon were golfing at the club he works at.

Marc (25), who grew up in Brechin, is now a greenskeeper at St. Andrews Old Course and lives in the town.

The band were staying at the Old Course Hotel after a sell-out gig in Edinburgh.

Marc, who set a course record at Brechin Golf Course when he was 16, said: “I noticed them on the ballot sheet. It’s like a booking sheet that tells you who’s playing that day. I knew they were in town and liked golf so thought they might be out. They had played a few courses in the area.”

The band, consisting of Caleb (pictured right), Nathan (left) and their other brother Jared and cousin Matthew are one of the biggest musical acts in the world today, with their last two albums selling in excess of eight million copies.

Marc, who played golf for Scotland as a schoolboy, added: “They were really sound. It made the first day back at work after three weeks off a little sweeter.”
